All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which you will receive upon booking confirmation or at the time of vehicle collection. This document outlines specific terms, conditions, insurance coverage, applicable charges, and your responsibilities during the rental period. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Requirements for Vehicle Rental
- To hire a vehicle in York, you must be at least 21 years old, though some vehicle types may have different age requirements, including potential extra charges for drivers under 25. You need to possess a full, valid driving licence that corresponds to the vehicle category and has been held for the duration specified in the Rental Agreement. Additionally, valid identification and proof of your current address are required, along with payment information and a security deposit. Make sure to meet any other conditions outlined in the Rental Agreement.
3. Reservations and Payments
- Reservations can be made via our website, over the phone, or directly at our York office. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. Full payment and a security deposit are generally required upon vehicle pickup. All prices are displayed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT where applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, processed securely through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of vehicle collection in York, it is your responsibility to conduct a thorough inspection and report any pre-existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be generated and must be signed to document the state of the vehicle. Upon returning the vehicle, it should be in the same condition as when it was collected, taking into account normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and may incur additional charges. Ensure the vehicle is returned with the same fuel level as at collection; otherwise, refueling charges will apply. Late returns could result in extra fees, so please inform us immediately if a delay is anticipated. You remain liable for any damage or loss up to the insurance excess limit, unless further coverage is purchased. Damage resulting from negligence or misuse, as well as any violations of these Terms, will be your responsibility regardless of insurance.
6. Modifications and Cancellations
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the booking type and the notice provided. For precise information, consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or no-shows may incur additional charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited Uses of Rental Vehicle
- Use of the vehicle for illegal activities is strictly prohibited. This includes racing, rallying, off-roading, or any dangerous driving practices. Transporting hazardous materials or sub-letting the vehicle to others is not allowed. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is forbidden. Additionally, ensure that the vehicle is used within its intended purpose, does not exceed passenger or weight limits, and remains within the designated geographical boundaries unless authorized.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental termination and extra fees.
8. Liability Limitations
To the fullest extent allowed by English and Welsh law, Car Hire York is not responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, that may arise from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claim will not exceed the rental amount you paid in the last 12 months. This limitation does not affect our liability for death or personal injury resulting from negligence or fraudulent actions.
York Jurisdiction Guidelines
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes will fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in this region.
